01 Quito

Arrival in Quito and transfer to the hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure.

02 Quito

Today enjoy a sightseeing tour through the old part of the city, where you can still breathe the colonial history of Ecuador. Visit the church of La Compañia, which has the most ornate and richly sculptured façade and interior and the church San Francisco. Visit one of Quito’s oldest streets, “La Ronda”, which is home to many workshops and galleries. Here you will enjoy a chocolate tasting and learn about the process to make great chocolate.

03 Quito

Experience the flavours of Ecuador during a market visit and cooking course. Get an insight into the typical Ecuadorian cuisine by Slow Food principals. The tour goes on to the Equatorial Line Monument called “Middle of the World”. Here guests have a truly rare experience to stand in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres simultaneously. Visit the museum "Inti Ñan". Here you will learn about the customs of the ancient cultures of Ecuador.

04 Quito - Otavalo

Drive to the well known spot Otavalo. On the way you stop to meet the slow food organization “Mishky Huarmy”. You will get an introduction to nutrition and the origin of the elements and will of course try the Chaguarmishky. This drink is extracted from the agave and has always been used as a dietary supplement as it is rich in iron, phosphorus and calcium. Enjoy a cultural lunch. Continue to visit the famous handicraft market with its central square “Plaza de los Ponchos”. Overnight at Hacienda Pinsaqui.

05 Otavalo - Quito

Today you will visit a Kichwa family, where you will cook typical Andean meals made with natural products coming from the Kichwa speaking region around Otavalo. This includes a main course, side dishes, dessert and drinks in an open kitchen that shares a mix of the ancestral and the modern. Return to Quito. You will enjoy a delicious farewell dinner in a typical restaurant.

06 Quito

Transfer to the airport for homebound flight (or  extension program, e.g. Galapagos).
