WARMI KAWSAY
Women´s life enhancing program

Following goals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12 and 17) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the SAT Sustainable Team has identified an indigenous community located in Imbabura Province, in the Northern Andean region of Ecuador, who is looking for opportunities to emerge from poverty and have access to a life of dignity.
Imbabura province is not only known for its colourful landscapes surrounded by captivating lakes and magnificent mountains but also for the charming and friendly indigenous communities that are embraced in the region.
A group of women from Topo community has recognized the great impact of tourism and have started an entrepreneurship that is already operating in a fairly basic and empirical way, looking forward to enjoying a basic standard of living, creating gender equality and empowerment of women. They now offer certain services around rural community tourism, as homestays in their houses and certain activities involving their traditional and ancestral lifestyle.
After learning more about the objectives of this community, Sat Sustainable Team decided to support their plan to build a strong and organized association that brings a sustainable economic growth of the community.
Sat Sustainable Team is working to develop effective measures and actions, including training in tourism and business management skills, designing attractive and competitive tour programs, helping to promote them, building strategic partnerships and enhancing their sustainable practices. There is also a need to improve tourism infrastructure, such as improving local houses for homestay, and building a proper cultural centre.
First part of the plan will be developed over a 24-month period, with an estimated budget covering the creation of a legal association, the design and promotion of travel programs, the development of a partnership and training costs.
Our organization truly believes that cultural diversity can contribute to sustainable development, and through the support of this initiative, we hope to encourage inter-cultural understanding and a better future for all people.
